Evangelism is often hard! If you are anything like me, you are often reminded of the importance of sharing your faith but equally struck by your own failures to do so.

What is Globe Connect?

I spoke briefly about Globe Connect on Sunday. The reality is that we have the greatest message to share and the upcoming Globe Connect course gives us an opportunity to do just that. Paul writes in Romans 1v16:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”

Globe Connect is an online meeting where people have the chance to listen to a short talk on the gospel and then they can choose to ask questions. It’s not intrusive, people aren’t required to speak (or even turn their camera on!) But it gives people a relaxed environment to think about Christianity. We have three evenings, each with a different question: Who is God? Who are we? and What is life for?

We had the first session on Monday night and it was a real encouragement to look at who God is and to hear some really, really interesting questions from those attending.

How can we invite people?

First of all it is essential to pray. We have a God who is sovereign, and it is he who changes people’s hearts. Therefore, we pray that he will use our invitations to bring people along. I am certainly no expert in inviting people but here are some ideas.

A face to face invitation is always best but for many of us that is not an option at the moment. I spent some time putting together a short message explaining what Globe Connect was and then made a broadcast list on WhatsApp of people to send it to. Then each of the three weeks I send an invite out unless someone has explicitly said they weren’t interested. If you want an idea of a message to send then just get in touch with me.

For those of you on social media you have a great chance to share the invite on your accounts with a quick description.

The Globe Connect talks are also recorded which has been really helpful in being able to send out the recordings. However, it is always better to invite people to the live session as the discussions aren’t recorded.

I’d also really encourage you to attend yourself, whether you have someone attending or not. It is a great reminder to us of the gospel, it gives you a flavour of what the sessions are like and it also shows those who are attending how important we think the gospel is. Even if you can’t attend you could set a reminder to pray on Monday at 7PM for the session.

Ultimately, we are weak vessels. But the amazing truth is that God uses us! He is the one who saves so we are called to be faithful in inviting.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2: 8-9

I sent an invitation to nearly 80 people. Out of all the invites I sent can you guess how many people turned up…? One! That might not seem like many but it is not about the numbers that come. There may be some of you who invite one person and that one person decides to come. I pray that we would not be discouraged but instead will continue to be faithful. Sometimes we do not see fruit at the time but one rejected invitation is a step closer to that person thinking more about the gospel.

One of my friends came and they asked some fascinating questions. I had 1=one other person also watch one of the videos. What a joy to see people engaging with the gospel! My prayer is that they would come to know the Lord Jesus as their saviour. Luke 15:10 says:

“There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Take some time right now to pray to God and then work out who you would like to invite. Let’s faithfully share the gospel and trust that we have a God who saves!
