The Israelites are stuck, they’re not in the Promised Land, they are in Egypt. But God’s big covenant promise to them is being fulfilled even in the slavery and oppression in Egypt; they are growing into a nation. We’re starting our journey through the book of Exodus and our first stop is seeing that God hears the cries and groanings of his people.
